What’s up at gamethink? - 21 May 2008.
True, I haven’t been updating the site for a long time, although I still have a few articles in the pipeline. For the last few months I have been collaborating to a new magazine, Amusement. The first issue just came out last week, do check it out. The magazine angle is that while gaming has constantly reinvented itself in the past 20 years, game magazines of today very much look alike those of back then.
Amusement is different, and aimed at the discriminating gamer.
That 20 years gap is (...)
Introducing forums... - 28 July 2006.
Following the upgrade to SPIP 1.9.0, I have done some minor changes in my templates. The most significant improvement is the addition of forums. According to the site statistics, there are up to 50 people who visit gamethink.net each day, from just about everywhere on earth - from Tokyo to Johannesburg, from Helsinki to Bengalore. Now is the chance to speak up! you can comment each article you read here.
The second most interesting upgrade is the RSS file. There has been an RSS thread on (...)
Upgrading SPIP - 21 July 2006.
On the 1st of July, SPIP 1.9.0 was released. SPIP is the CMS system that powers gamethink. The new version brings a number of improvements... from a backoffice point of view! But I saw that as a good opportunity to tidy up my templates and my CSS sheets. If you are interested, you can see what they look like here.
Google analytics - 2 June 2006.
woohoo! I finally got my Google Analytics invitation. It’s really a fantastic tool!
Changing servers... - 13 March 2006.
The site is now hosted by ovh.com.
New section: game analysis - 15 February 2006.
I am applying finishing touches to articles I wrote about specific games. This new section will start with a post-mortem like article about Dino Island, on which I acted as Project Manager.
The site is live! - 26 January 2006.
I kept the home page for last, and now this is done... The design of the site is now complete (for now) and the site should be accessible at http://www.gamethink.net !
New look - 26 January 2006.
While surfing, I found a site using Andreas Virklund’s Andreas08 style sheet and that’s exactly what I wanted for the site! I’ve adapted it for SPIP and voilą! exactly 3 months after I started working on the site, it’s finally publishable!
Structure complete - 23 January 2006.
Now almost all of the main templates are written and work well with each other. I’m not terribly happy with the CSS so far but at least it’s functional!
First template - 8 January 2006.
... written from scratch! I’m on my way to make the site look like I want to.
Struggling... - 7 December 2005.
with the design of the site. Changing the looks of the site is not easy as it requires tempering with the SPIP templates and CSS files. The default SPIP templates generate very complex HTML and, therefore, the CSS files are quite heavy as well. As I am only using a fraction of SPIP’s functions, I’ll probably have to rewrite the templates from scratch... I keep writing but the site is not yet publishable (...)
Moving ahead... - 3 November 2005.
I wrote a series of articles on game history. In my other articles, I found it always useful to give historical examples, now I can just cite those articles instead of going into lengthy digressions.
First article written - 27 October 2005.
I wrote my first article on the subject of attention. Many more to go!
Welcome to Gamethink! - 26 October 2005.
The site is officially born. I chose to run it on SPIP, which seems well suited for publishing articles.
